Emails receiving but not sending

Check if you have other accounts with the same email address. Sometimes, when a new account tries to collect email from the outgoing server it uses the old leftover account to contact the outgoing server. This can result in a continuous password request or outgoing error.

To rectify this issue ensure you prevent old email accounts from collecting mail by unticking the collect mail option in account settings for those old accounts.

When using Apple Mail IMAP, emails sent do not appear in my Sent Folder or messages deleted keep returning?

When using IMAP, Apple Mail requires you provide a specific folder to save sent messages. Follow these simple steps to configure this:

For Apple Mail(Macbook etc)

  1. Click and highlight the “Sent” folder for your account.
  2. Click the “Mailbox” menu
  3. Choose “Use This Mailbox For”
  4. Choose “Sent”

Repeat the above for the ‘Delete’ folder

This will configure Mail to save new outgoing emails to the sent folder for your account. If you want your previously sent emails to appear they must be dragged from Mail’s local Sent folder to the Sent folder listed under your account.

For iPhone and iPad

Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendar/ Your Email Account/Account/Advanced

Select the ‘sent’ folder then select ‘on the server’ rather than the phone.

Select the ‘deleted’ folder then select ‘on the server’ rather than the phone.

Press Back, Back, then Done
