Product Types

There are 2 Types of Product: Simple Product and Variable Product

A Simple Product is one item at one price

A Variable Product has variations which can be individually set up to enable a different price for that variable. For example if you have a TV for sale, the variable could be size so each size will have a different cost i.e. 42″(£299), 55″(£399) etc

When adding or editing a Product the ‘Product data’ field will indicate which it is.

 

Add a Simple Product

  1. From the Dashboard Menu click ‘Products’ then click the ‘Add new product’ button
  2. Type in your ‘Product name’
  3. Type in a Product description’ in the ‘Product Description’ box
  4. Scroll down to ‘Regular price (£)’ and type in the price (you do not need to type the £ sign)
  5. Scroll up and on the right under ‘Product Categories’ select the category/categories the product needs to have. (see below for adding Product Categories)
  6. To Add a Product image click the ‘Set product image’ link under the heading ‘Product Image’ on the right hand side
  7. Select either an existing image in the ‘Media Library’ or click the ‘Upload files’ tab to upload a new image (all images are automatically resized if too big)
  8. When you have selected the image press the ‘Set product image’ button bottom right
  9. Scroll up further and press the ‘Publish’ button
  10. The Product is now added

 

Add a Variable Product

Add a Product Category

  1. From the Dashboard click ‘Products’ (Left hand Menu) then click ‘Categories’
  2. Under Heading ‘Add new Category’ type in your category name
  3. Select a parent category if required
  4. Press the ‘Add new category’ button

 

Edit Product Description

  1. Click ‘Products’ in the left menu
  2. Open/Edit a product by clicking its title
  3. Change the description in the first description box
  4. Press the ‘Update’ button

 

Edit Product SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

This is the unique number used for stock control/identification purposes

  1. Scroll down to ‘Product Data’ section and click the ‘Inventory’ tab
  2. Update the SKU
  3. Press the ‘Update’ button

 

Edit Product Price

Simple Product

  1. Click ‘Products’ in the left menu
  2. Open/Edit a product by clicking its title
  3. Change the price in the field ‘Regular price (£)’
  4. Press the ‘Update’ button

Variable Product

  1. Click ‘Products’ in the left menu
  2. Open/Edit a product by clicking its title
  3. Click the ‘Variations’ tab
  4. Click the row of the variation that needs editing (the variation details will expand down)
  5. Change the price in the field ‘Regular price (£)’
  6. Press the ‘Update’ button

 

Discount Rules(only if applicable)

If Discount Rules are being used these should have been set up already before applying products to them.

  1. From the Dashboard click ‘WooCommerce’ then ‘Discount Rules’
  2. Click and open the Rule you wish to apply to a product
  3. In the ‘Product Filter’ add the products you wish to apply to this rule by typing its name into the Filter List
  4. Press’ Save’ top right
