Resizing images before uploading to a website

Before inserting any images into your pages, they need to be the correct size to ensure they will firstly  successfully upload and secondly display properly.

If you try to insert full sized images into your content, for example straight from a digital camera, they might not upload if they are too big as there is a restriction on our servers that prevents very large files from being uploaded. Even if you could upload them they would then be so large they would slow down the speed at which your web page will display therefore slowing your site down

Ideally very large images need to be resized first to prevent these problems.

What size should my images be?

An image placed within your page content does not need be any larger than around 500-700 pixels wide, but can be any height. Images wider than approx 500 pixels may interfere with your content by displaying wider than your actual page.

An image used as the main image for an item or product that will be displayed to a larger size using a zoom effect on your website needs to be no larger than approx 1900 pixels wide
