Transferring a Domain Name you own to Wrap up Web

If you wish to transfer a domain name you own from your current domain name registrar, such as GoDaddy or 123Reg etc, in to your Wrap up Web account, please use the instructions below..

The process for transferring a .uk domain name is different to transferring a non .uk domain name

The domain name transfer process for .uk domains (i.e. .co.uk .uk .me.uk .org.uk etc) is NOT the same as the domain name transfer process for non .uk domain names (i.e. .com .co .info .biz .net .org .shop etc.)

.uk Domain name transfer

.uk domains such as .co.uk .uk or .org.uk etc (all domains ending in .uk) use the IPS TAG change method for transfer via the UK body Nominet.

Each domain provider(registry) has an IPS TAG (Wrap up Web’s IPS TAG is STACK). You can only transfer a .uk domain if the TAG of that domain has been changed by the current owner of that domain the the TAG of the receiving registry, this transfer service is free if transferring a .uk domain name into your Wrap up Web account.

Non .uk domain names Transfer

Any other domains non .uk domain names such as .com .co .info .biz .net .org .shop etc. are under the authority of ICANN and the transfer of these domains uses the Authorisation Code & Email method.

Transferring the domain name out of current provider

Getting the authorisation code is the first part of the process. This code can only be generated by the current owner of the domain name transferring it out of their own current domain provider account. Once a transfer out is instigated an Authorisation code will be issued.

This code can then be used to Transfer the domain name into your Wrap up Web account.

Transferring the domain name in to your wrap up Web account

Wrap up Web will charge one annual renewal period for this service (as per ICANN rules). If you wish to transfer in a non .uk domain without the code (to add it later) you can still go ahead with the transfer in.

Ideally, before a transfer IN is instigated the person who owns the domain needs to have generated the authorisation code via a transfer OUT and given it to you so you can use the code for the transfer IN.

The authorisation code ideally needs to be submitted at the point you transfer in the domain to your Wrap up Web account and pay the annual renewal charge .

The code can be submitted later, as stated above, but submitting the code up front will greatly raise the chances of the transfer IN completing.

After you submit the transfer IN request (ideally along with the code) AND paid the transfer IN annual renewal charge the transfer IN/OUT process has NOT YET completed.

The current owner of the domain will receive an authorisation email from ICANN requesting they confirm the transfer OUT of the domain.

An email is also sent to the recipient of the domain name (i.e. yourself) to confirm acceptance of the transfer IN.

This process is given a limiting period of around 5 days to give both the current owner and the person receiving the domain time to respond to their retrepective emails.

After 5 days the transfer process is ended by ICANN automatically and the transfer process will have to start again, if any of the following are true…

  • The code is not submitted
  • The code is incorrect
  • The current owner confirm transfer OUT request email is not responded to
  • The new owner confirm request transfer IN email is not responded to

A restart of the transfer process does not incur any further charge. Only when the transfer completes will payment be required.

If you have used a card or bank transfer to pay and the transfer fails a refund will be issued.

To ensure the transfer IN/OUT process completes please ensure you have the Authorisation Code up front and both the current owner and yourself are able to access the email address that the authorisation/confirmation emails will be sent to.

If the current owner is not receiving their email you may have to contact them to ask them to change the email address associated with the domain name.
