Difference between IMAP and POP
IMAP (Recommended)
An IMAP account will sync to our servers so anything you create on your account locally will be reflected on our server.
Advantages:
- Several users can use the same account
- If you loose your device the account can be retrieved again from our server
Disadvantages:
- Emails may stack up on our server and you may reach your email storage limit of 2GB.
POP (Not Recommended)
A POP or POP3 account retrieves messages from a mail server, downloads them to your device locally then removes the messages from the server inbox after a stated time.
Advantages
- No storage of emails on the server so server mailbox limit is not reached.
Disadvantages
- Messages are stored locally with no limit other than the size of your hard drive. However, a backup is ideally required in case your PC/device is lost/damaged. An external drive/cloud backup application such as Dropbox or Google Drive can be used to backup your local email storage folder. For example if you are using Outlook you can include your .pst file folder in your backup.

Sending of large sized emails
Not all ISP Internet Service Providers have the same allowances for the size of emails that can be sent. If you are using a high speed network such as BT infinity or Sky Fibre your allowance may be larger than other providers.
Therefore in some rare cases, if you are not using a high speed broadband supplier, some emails with large attachments over 3-4Mb for example may not send.
If this is the case we suggest using free cloud sharing facilities to send large files such as Dropbox or We Transfer
Orange/EE Broadband Known Issue
Most outgoing smtp servers are blocked so these customers may need to use the the Orange/EE outgoing server smtp.orangehome.co.uk for POP3. The port settings remain 110/25. If a password is asked for, change the ‘More settings’ Outgoing server option to ‘Login to ingoing mail server before sending mail’
